Well, the surgery for Artie is scheduled for tomorrow; we drop him off before 11:00 a.m.
As I mentioned before, Artie will have surgery for a cyst pressing into his lungs. Dr. Pilny will be assisting a vet who has done the surgery before, but it's pretty dire, severing the ribs to get in there. Tonight I had cold feet, but intellectually I think it's the best thing. As you can see, Artie is in good shape for a two-year-old--and I have been able to get him to add a little weight in the past few days.
Please take out some time to send Artie prayers, wishes, or whatever you do, for a successful surgery and a good recovery!
I am more nervous than I have been about any procedure for any rat in years and years. I am only glad that Artie doesn't know to be nervous.

His full name is the Artful Dodger, since he was fostered in Brooklyn (for Kim's Ark).
He is not very sociable, but he's a nice cow rat.
